What a great review...and I too thought the initial aroma of the raw cigars wasn't a good sign - but wow! They're darn good with the hints of coffee, wood, and some sweet near the end. I found No. 2s at primostogies.com for $195. These cigars are similar to the Reserve Negra line but I'd say they're better. 4.5 out 5 is spot on!

I just got a great deal on a box of the Edmundo size (5 x 55) from CI and smoked one out of the box the day they arrived. It was fantastic! It smelled a little like amonia and I was worried that maybe I needed to let them rest a while. When I lit it up, I immediately tasted notes of mocha and spice. It was very mild unitl the last two inches and then became a literal chocolate stick. I loved it and look forward to smoking the other 19!

I got five Media Noches, in the robusto size, as a freebie with a travel humi purchase. The wrappers on mine are significantly darker than the one you have pictured here, and they taste good just looking at them. Problem is, I only got the five, already smoked two and gave one away. I'm heading home from a deployment soon, and I'm gonna let the other two age in my humi at least until I get home and then try one with some gourmet coffee, and the other with some really good scotch. Don't suppose you have any of those beans left.....

This is one of my favorites. I too am a maduro fan, but I have found the Monte Media Noche to be exceptional. Like all high end cigars, they get better as they age. I found the Churchill to be exceptional as well.

I'd compare it (favorably) to the Ashton Aged Maduro. Similar characteristics and flavor profile. IMO, this is the superior of the two cigars, and I'm a big AAM fan.

This sounds like one to try. I picked up a bunch of the Montecristo Platinums last time I was in NYC for $1 apiece at JR Cigars. I've enjoyed the darker side of the company, so I should give it a go.

What would you compare it to?

Yeah, that photo is really not indicative of the five or six that I ended up smoking to form an opinion for this review. What happened is that I realized I needed a picture only after having smoked my stash. So I had to run to the local smoke shop and pick up another. The one I bought ended up being pretty dry and not nearly as pretty as the others. I don't know if it's an overall consistency thing or not, which is why I didn't feel justified in awarding five of five stogies here.

I'm not one to judge a cigar's appearance over its performance, but doesn't this stick appear a bit bumpy and coarse?
