I just had one of these. As this was a new brand for me , and not even aware it was a Ashton until research after the smoke. I quite enjoyed it and agree, this would be a mild enough cigar with a morning coffee. Nice ash, burned evenly and did not get to overpowering at the end. Overall, I will look for more.

I, too, have noticed some negative reviews since I posted this (I try not to read other reviews before I make up my own mind). And I can certainly see how fans of the original San Cristobal would be disappointed if they expected something similar.

But I think the Selección del Sol is excellent in its own right, especially as a morning smoke with a cup of coffee. And, while others seemed to encounter sub-par combustion qualities, I found excellent construction across my three samples.

So I'd encourage those of you who have tried this blend to reconsider it; and those of you who haven't to at least sample a few.

I second dmjones comment on these. I've always been a fan fo the regular San Cristobal's bold profile, and was a little put off by the Seleccion's lack of similarity in many aspects. This review is one of the more generous I've read, but hey, to each their own.

I, too, was surprised at the lack of boldness in this cigar. I had smoked a regular San Cristobal a few days before I had the Seleccion del Sol and found this cigar wanting in comparison. However, I have one or two more of these in my humidor, so I'll definitely give it a second try, keeping in mind that it's not supposed to be like the regular version.
