Quick Smoke: Rocky Patel Rosado Robusto
12 Mar 2011
Each Saturday and Sunday we’ll post a Quick Smoke: not quite a full review, just our brief verdict on a single cigar of “buy,†“hold,†or “sell.â€
One of quite a few private label cigars marketed by Rocky Patel—this one for Famous Smoke Shop— the relatively inexpensive Rosado didn’t do much for me. Said to be a mix of Nicaraguan and Dominican filler with a seven-year-old Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, I found it bland from beginning to end. I won’t miss not smoking it again.
Verdict = Sell.
The RP Rosado is what it is — a consistently tasty, well constructed, reasonably priced cigar that, while not at all complex, is satisfying and enjoyable. I enjoy the larger sizes and, especially at auction and monster prices, an exceptional value. I try to keep a handful on hand.
I realize some will take this comment a bit cynically, seeing is who is writing it, but I just had to speak in their defense. I have smoked a lot of these since their release, and have always found them anything BUT "bland." Moreover, I have recommended them often, and recieved many thank you's for doing so. Let's agree to disagree for now, but you might want to give this cigar a second chance, is all.
Interesting comments. Thanks. I still have a couple in my humidor, so I will certainly give it another chance or two.
Excellent. Thanks for being so open-minded.
