Quick Smoke: Punch Champion
Sunday, January 21st, 2007Each Saturday and Sunday we’ll post a Quick Smoke: not quite a full review, just our brief take on a single cigar.

When I’m looking for a fairly quick smoke, I often turn to the 4 1/2 inch (by 30/60 ring gauge) Champion. I find the shape — resembling a python swallowing a pig — intriguing. I would call it a medium strength, flavorful cigar. I find hints of cedar, pepper, even vanilla. I have had occasional burn problems with Champions, though this one ran straight and true.
Verdict= Buy.

“a python swallowing a pig” - sounds about right
I would also reccommed the Arturo Fuente Hemingway short story, or the Natural by Drew Estate Root.
I agree wholeheartedly with you on the Short Story. An excellent smoke I’d say is even better than the Champ. I haven’t tried the Root.
[...] Now let me wax poetic about the extremely tasty and tiny Oliva Serie G Special. Its shape resembles the pig-in-a-python style of the Punch Champion, though the Oliva has a more tapered end and at three and 3/4 inches it is a half inch shorter. The ring gauge is listed at 48. [...]
[...] The Punch Champion is a little four and ½ inch bowling pin of a cigar is just plain fun to smoke. Pick one up and I’ll bet it feels great. Enjoy the light aroma of cedar before you light it. Best of all, it’s got that Punch spice, but itdoesn’t stop there; other flavors kick in along the way. You can usually find them for around $4 per stick. [...]
[...] Exhausted and exhilarated, I look forward to lighting up a celebratory Punch Champion. [...]
