Quick Smoke: Rocky Patel R4 Robusto Maduro
3 May 2008
Each Saturday and Sunday we’ll post a Quick Smoke: not quite a full review, just our brief take on a single cigar.
The R4 is generously packed full of Nicaraguan tobacco and adorned with a silky oscuro wrapper. But that’s about where the fun stops and the pain begins. Overly tight construction leads to numerous burn problems, a stiff and unforgiving draw, and a steady buildup of tar. The thin, ropelike wisps of noxious smoke offended me and my female friend, herself a cigarette smoker, who likened the aroma to that of “burning rubber.â€
Verdict = Sell.

Too bad.. because that jet black wrapper looks good.
It's a fantastic-looking cigar, but the draw and the taste are unacceptable. If you're looking for a pretty cigar that's also a great smoke, Rocky makes many far superior products.
Jon I have to totally agree with you on the R4. I'm a long time supporter of Rocky but lately, some his new stuff, like the R4 just haven't done it for me.
Great review! Keep them coming!
The maduro left what appeared to be dye stains on my fingers. Very uneven burn and bland flavor.
