Stogie Commentary: Cigar Aficionado’s Reviews Are Illegal?

Cigar Aficionado recently released a series of videos on their website about the process they use to review the dozens of cigars that are rated in every issue of the magazine. The problem is, under New York State law, every review is probably illegal.
You see, cigars are usually smoked in their New York offices. They say they make a point of always smoking their cigars in the same place to ensure that the environment isn’t affecting the ratings.
This is a problem because the New York State Clean Indoor Air Act (Public Health Law, Article 13-E) “prohibits smoking in virtually all workplaces.” Unlike an exemption-filled New York City law, the state law does include a few exemptions (including for “retail tobacco businesses” and “cigar bars”), but none that would seem to exempt a magazine’s office (unless the pages of CA are actually printed on paper made from tobacco, which would make the magazine a tobacco retailer).
So, unfortunately, the facts are clear: Technically Cigar Aficionado is likely violating the New York State law. But as you might guess, my purpose in making this observation isn’t to get the magazine in trouble, but to show just how absurd anti-smoking laws are.
The employees of Cigar Aficionado, many of whom are the ones doing the “illegal” smoking, clearly didn’t decide to work there to be in a smoke-free environment. In fact, the writers were chosen for their expertise in cigars, and Cigar Aficionado‘s employees all knew that they would be working in a smoke-filled environment. After all, the word “cigar” is right on the front door.
In other words, there is no victim if and when Cigar Aficionado violates New York State’s smoking ban. Except that having a ridiculous, victimless law on the books diminishes public respect for laws in general. There won’t be—and shouldn’t be—anyone beating down Cigar Aficionado‘s doors to demand that they stop smoking.
Here at StogieGuys.com, we regularly focus on smoking bans in bars, cigar lounges, and cigar parties, but workplace smoking bans are just as wrong. Surely most employers would, as they rightfully should be able to, ban smoking in the workplace.
And that fact goes to show just how unnecessary and unfair workplace smoking bans are. Instead of letting freedom of choice work by allowing most places to ban smoking voluntarily, one-size-fits-all smoking bans are now affecting places where no reasonable person would ever suggest that smoking should be banned.
Now let’s all light up a cigar in honor of violating unjust cigar bans everywhere!

So something has been bugging me for a while now . Here's what happened After classes I took the bus, I was hungry so I took a detour to this fast food joint and picked this sandwitch from the menu and took it to a table and sat down after finishing it I realized I had not paid for it!
Yeah evidently they were super busy and distracted because there was this manager/investor type looking around everywhere and talking to them. So I was just about to go up to the counter and say I hadn't paid but then I realized if I did that the owner guy might get mad at the employees. So I just left. What should I have done do you think?

Scott: That will warm you up on this cold morning. Imagine yourself in a hot gym working up a sweat. That is what we all need as the temperature is going to fall to zero before that snow hits about 9PM tonight. Billy 'Boy' Thompson is in the studio with us and he's brought some guests. The 1964 graduate of the Joliet Township high school with an all time record of 110 and 15 with the 95 knockouts. How are you doing sir? Lets make sure the mics are on. Alright, who do you have with us this morning?
Billy: I have Joseph Awinongya from Ghana, Africa. He's president of our Will County Boxing Gym and Derek Drey. Derek Drey from Joliet, our boxing team and Donald Myart, he's a professional boxer, ex professional boxer-an amateur- boxer and also a broadcaster. We all are on the same page this morning.
Scott: So, ah you know, as long as it has been since you have been active in the ring, you are still so involved in the sport, and it shows by the people you brought in here today.
Billy: Well this guy, Joseph, got me involved. I was sitting back in my garage. I retired from the railroad for three years, worked for 31 years, but Joseph got me, got me to come by and and let's get together. So, I went to help him.
Scott: Well -That Joseph, is that the gentleman here?
Billy: That's correct he's from Ghana, Africa.
Joseph: I am from Ghana, I am from Ghana,- but I grew up in Italy. I am (Clears throat) an ex professional boxer. Don King brought me into this country. I came to Joliet, I was in Chicago, I was going to fight a guy in New York. So, I came to Chicago to train with the Polish fighter, because I was fighting the same guy from Poland. So, I came to Chicago and started training in the Windy City Gym and then the fight just turned off..They told me they did not want me any more. I came to Bolingbrook. I see some of the African stores over there, so I said I will stay right here.
Scott: So you got the youngsters going on now, and you are showing them what you know, huh.
Joseph: (Smiling) Yeah, I am showing them something. I came to Joliet. I found out that Joliet used to be a boxing town. I was in boxing for a long time and I said what am I going to do to bring some people together to see if we can open a boxing gym. It took me 5 years to start, you know, getting every body together, to see exactly what we want to do, and how to bring this about. Exactly, like Derek Drey, kids who have energy and want to burn it somewhere. So, we opened the boxing gym and so far the boxing gym is doing real good. We have some professionals, three professionals, we signed up a lot of kids. The boxing gym is going wonderful and I was very, very surprised.
Scott: Now let's back up a moment, you told me Don King brought you to this country?
Joseph: Yeah, Don King brought me to this country.
Scott: How many people want to be discovered by Don King!
Joseph: Yeah.
Scott: How did you do that?
Joseph: …I went back home to Africa …I was going back to Germany. I was sparring with one ex heavy weight champion and he had his people over there. They saw me, and they said they would like to sign me up, and that was my dream, since I was fighting. That was my dream to come to Don King. So, they saw me and then they brought me, I signed with them. I did really good with them. I don't take nothing away from Don King. He put me in a place that I know that I can do more things than I can do. What ever I want to do.

Wazzup! I've hung around watching and reading for ages here.
So something has been bugging me for a while now . Here is what happened When I was done with school one day I headed out, I was starving so I took a detour to this fast food joint and picked this sandwitch from the menu and then went off to eat it in a corner when it suddenly occured to me they didn't charge me!
Yeah evidently they were super busy and distracted because there was this manager/investor type looking around everywhere and talking to them.
Why I had not noticed this was because I was obsessing over this concept about the recent stock market crash last year. . The fact is that nothing crashed except currency! All the people in all the companies are still there, all the technology is still there and not forgotton. Now obviously besides the fact that the dollar is known to have lost value the price of stock(in dollars) has also crashed. Now think! Shouldn't the opposite have happened? How can stock value fall more than currency? It can't! This financial crisis is purely psychological and those who don't snap out of it are doomed to failure. Not that it matters much to me personally at this stage in my life though but my guess is that most people are fully unaware or only partly aware that most stock is currently undervalued and there will be no depression. This is so audaciously simple that it just goes over everyone's heads. All of these figures of low growth don't mean anything. Answer me this, if the growth of the last decade was 20% then what difference does it make if everything shrinks by 10% over the next decade? Answer, none! There is no crisis or as that one person whose name I don't recall right now said, it's just an opportunity.
While the life-expectancy gap between men and women has decreased, it's no secret that men still need to pay more attention to their bodies. Several things work against men. They tend to smoke and drink more than women. They don't seek medical help as often as women. Some men define themselves by their work, which can add to stress.
There are also health conditions that only affect men, such as prostate cancer and low testosterone. Many of the major health risks that men face – like colon cancer or heart disease – can be prevented and treated with early diagnosis. Screening tests can find diseases early, when they are easier to treat. It's important to have regular checkups and screenings.
