Quick Smoke: La Flor Dominicana Ligero Torpedo

24 Oct 2009

Each Saturday and Sunday we’ll post a Quick Smoke: not quite a full review, just our brief verdict on a single cigar of “buy,” “hold,” or “sell.”

La Flor Dominicana Ligero Torpedo

While I’ve had many good experiences with many La Flor Dominicana smokes, this Torpedo (6 x 54)—on this particular occasion—wasn’t up to snuff. I mostly enjoyed its flavor of spice, leather, and cream. But this Ecuadorian Sumatra-wrapped cigar suffered from poor combustion qualities that consistently deteriorated from my enjoyment. I wanted more from a $7-9 cigar made by a premier tobacco outfit and, hoping this was merely a dud, I expect the next one to be better.

Verdict = Hold.

    I am reading more and more about these construction issues with LFD. I do not purchase anymore due to my last several experiences. El Jocko was severly plugged, would not stay lit, and the canoe was more like a cruise ship. You were generous in your review, IMO!

    You really have to be considering storage also. I have had very few problems with LFD products. I have El Jockos, Double Ligero's and Ligero smokes in my humidor and never had a problem that wasn't associated with humidity levels. One time my humidor got a little too humid, around 73 RH, and that was the only time I had burn issues.

      Hi Mark: My name is Raymond-Michael and I have been smoking for 15 years. I love the LFD Coronado and now would like to try the LFD Ligero and Double Ligero. In your opinion, what is the difference in taste between the two and which size gives the most flavor and length of smoke for the money. Your opinion is important to me. My e-mail is raymond@compjobs.com. Thanks for your thoughts.
