Quick Smoke: EO 601 Serie “Red†Toro
7 Nov 2009
Each Saturday and Sunday we’ll post a Quick Smoke: not quite a full review, just our brief verdict on a single cigar of “buy,†“hold,†or “sell.â€

Even though this line from Erik Espinosa and Eddie Ortega is only a few years old, smoking a Toro (6 x 50) for the first time in awhile feels like catching up with an old friend. The Nicaraguan puro, dressed in an oily habano wrapper, displays a masterful balance of power and subtlety. Flavors include cocoa, pepper, and toasty tobacco. Minor burn issues detract only slightly from the outstanding taste of this Don Pepin Garcia creation.
Verdict = Buy.

I got to meet Eddie Ortega at an event yesterday–very nice man. I brought home a 601 red, a 601 blue and a Murcielago, and smoked a Cubao Maduro there at the shop. It's always a pleasure to be able to tell a cigar company owner face-to-face how much you enjoy his products and I do love the 601 Red and the Cubao, both the regular and the Maduro. Of course, now I have to move on and try the rest of his product line…
I'm surprised more folks haven't stumbled upon what a gem the 601 Red is. Always a knockout smoke as far as I'm concerned. Don Pepin Garcia rules!
