Quick Smoke: Perdomo Nick’s Sticks Toro Maduro

10 Jul 2010

Each Saturday and Sunday we?ll post a Quick Smoke: not quite a full review, just our brief verdict on a single cigar of “buy,” “hold,” or “sell.”

A smoking acquaintance recommended I give this new inexpensive line a try, citing the Maduro version as the best of the bunch. Unfortunately, it didn’t suit my taste. Despite good construction and burn qualities, I found it harsh and lacking the typical maduro sweetness. With such a low price, I definitely plan to smoke Nick’s Sticks in its other varieties—Sun Grown and Connecticut—but I don’t think I’ll be lighting another Maduro.

Verdict = Sell.

    My experience was just the opposite with the maduro. I found it quite satisfying. It wasn't overly harsh and it was rather mellow. The sun grown on the other hand I found very harsh and unpleasant. But, I've only smoked one of each of these sticks and I plan on trying them a few more times to form a better opinion.

    I haven’t tried any of them yet, but I was looking forward to it. Now I’m not so sure. Mike says the Sungrown was bad; George says the Maduro he had was bad. One of the guys who works at my local B&M said the Maduro was so bad he threw it out the window. Not in such a hurry anymore to get to the Sungrown I’ve had in my humi for a couple weeks.

    Of course, with the low prices on these sticks it makes experimenting much more palatable.
