Quick Smoke: Avo XO Trio Intermezzo
18 Jul 2010
Each Saturday and Sunday we’ll post a Quick Smoke: not quite a full review, just our brief verdict on a single cigar of “buy,†“hold,†or “sell.â€
This soft, spongy, Connecticut shade-wrapped cigar has a brackish taste. While flavors of ginger and sweetness waft in and out, the overall profile, while mild, is dominated by an abrasive saltiness. Construction is flawless. I don’t dislike the Avo XO Trio Intermezzo (5.5 x 50), but I expect something a little less one-dimensional from the Davidoff pedigree.
Verdict = Hold.

I sometimes wonder who are the buyers of overpriced cigar lines like AVO. I wonder whether these lines would maintain their reputation if they were priced at a point where guys with limited budgets who smoke a lot, do their buying?
I like the XO in the Maestro size. I won 3 singles w/ a $4-bid on auction. They were wonderfully creamy but turned bitter about 3 1/2 inches in. That shortenned smoke was okay for a few but would that be tolerable for a box-purchase?
