Quick Smoke: Gurkha Legend Robusto
10 Oct 2010
Each Saturday and Sunday we’ll post a Quick Smoke: not quite a full review, just our brief verdict on a single cigar of “buy,†“hold,†or “sell.â€
Sometimes creamy and often nutty, the Gurkha Legend Robusto (6 x 50) is a satisfying smoke with excellent physical properties. It employs a seven-year-old Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper, eight-year-old Dominican filler tobaccos, and a Cameroon binder to turn out a musty, woody profile. While enjoyable, it doesn’t have the complexity to back up its price tag, which hovers around $9.
Verdict = Hold.

I agree that the MSRP on these can be quite high, but I don;t think I've ever spent full price on these. More like 5 bucks a pop max thanks to CI specials.
True. And at $5 apiece these are a much better buy. I just don't think this cigar can justify an MSRP around $10.
One of the few Gurkhas I like.
Okay Patrick, sure the "MSRP" isn't justified, but nobody pays that for the internet-exclusive Gurkhas. In fact, you can very frequently find them on sale for $4/stick, and if you're patient on auctions more like $3.
I appreciate the review, I do, but when reviewing things that are so frequently on sale I think a "Hold at retail/Buy on sale" caveat would be worth while. Just my 2 cents (that's 2 cents retail, lol).
No matter what the price point, I agree that this cigar isn't quite a "buy".
