Site News: Snow Cigar Open Thread
27 Jan 2011
The storm that hit the Washington area last night not only blanketed snow on the region and made the evening commute hellish, it also knocked out power in much of the area. That means we aren’t able to post today’s regularly-scheduled article. While we wait for power to be restored, we’ll leave you with the following question: What cigar do you turn to when the weather gets really cold?

Man that sucks guys. Hope you get power back soon.
Personally, I like a fulled bodied smoke in the cold. Tatuaje, Illusione, CAO La Traviata are all cigars I've smoked when the snow descends on me.
Good luck guys. Drink a hot toddy and a smoke a cuban while you wait for the power.
I go back to the CAO Brazilia at times like this.
Goof luck with the snow. People south of New York don't seem to know how to deal with it.
My go to snow smoke is the Don Pepin Cuban Classic Black.
I love me a Tat Pet Reserva!
Residing in Chicago, I swing by Tesa Cigar Co (Chicago based boutique – check Stogie Guys archives for some solid reviews/ commentary on Tesa) to enjoy a cabinet 312 Series P
I've got a few short cigars that I recently purchased for just such occasions. My favorite are the CAO Brazilia Novellas.
BTW – I agree with Travis – snow removal & snow management skills in the NE (south of NY) are atrocious! Hint to MD, VA, DC, PA and other states … send your snow teams for OJT training in NY and Chicago, and learn how to stay ahead of the disaster! Jeez!
I like a nice short smoke…a Nub Cameroon or a strong robusto, such as the 601 "green". I have fooled myself in the past, thinking I could take the cold and firing up a toro- then feeling bad when I have to chuck the half finished stick in the snow because I am so bloody cold!
I picked up an Ashton Aged Maduro yesterday for the ride home. Little did I know it would take 6 hours to go the 13 miles from Reston to Ashburn. I should have bought two!
Today a RP Vintage 1992 was my shoveling companion.
Something dark, strong and decadent- with a hint of a sweet undertone… like a cigar version of a hot chocolate. Maybe a camacho triple maduro… and no bigger than a robusto, because the experience starts to go downhill when you lose feeling in your extremities!
I live outside of Boston and this weather is typical for us. By late January, I'm used to the cold enough that anything over 25 F feels mild. I enjoy going out with my dog, chipping at the ice and puffing on a decent cigar for an hour or so in the afternoon when it's like that. I had a Rocky Patel 1990 petite corona today and it was perfect. It had about a year of age on it and it was better than I had rememebered them being. I usually like the 1992 better but the draw on it was perfect, the smoke thick and the maduro taste was classic. I'm not much for spice and bite so I appreciated the smoothness. When my supply goes down a little I will keep them in mind for my next purchase. Nice relaxing smoke that left me wanting more.
