Contest: Win a Box of La Gloria Cubana Gilded Age Toros

14 Aug 2013

Famous Smoke Shop, a Pennsylvania-based online cigar retailer, recently launched a new exclusive blend called La Gloria Cubana Gilded Age. Today, courtesy of our friends at Famous, we’re giving away a couple 18-count boxes in the Toro format (6 x 54).

LGC Guilded Age

Gilded Age is an extension of the famed La Gloria Cubana brand originated by the legendary Ernesto Perez-Carrillo. It features an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, Honduran binder, and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos of the viso and ligero varieties. Four sizes are available at Famous—Churchill, Magnum, Robusto, and Toro—with singles in the affordable $5-7 range.

My full review of La Gloria Cubana Gilded Age is forthcoming, but I didn’t want to hold off on the opportunity to give away two boxes to a couple lucky readers. So, to enter for your chance to win, here’s all you have to do:

— Leave a comment below about your favorite experience with La Gloria Cubana.
— Make sure you’re registered for StogieGuys.com’s free email newsletter.

That’s it (though, if you’re interested, you can read our contest rules and regulations here). Good luck, and special thanks to Famous Smoke Shop for making this giveaway possible.

I don't have any experience with La Gloria Cubana,
which is exactly why I'd like to win a box! 🙂

My favorite will always be the next one. LGC is one of my favorite brands.

The LGC Rabito de Cochino is my favorite cigar. Pair it with some coffee and you'll start the day right.

My first Gloria Series R as a once-newbie smoker. Quite an experience. Rich and stunning.

    Nice sticks, very tasty in-deed!

  9. Patrick Ashby Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 8:08 am #

Clarification: If you've never had any LGC cigar before, that's OK. We'll randomly select two winners who leave comments, whatever those comments are, so long as they're also registered for our free email newsletter. Best of luck!

La Gloria Cubana was one of the first cigars I ever smoked and one of the first I ever stocked my humidor with. I remember smoking the Serie N and thinking WOW and now the rest is history but I got my start on these and they will always be a favorite line of mine.

  11. cigarphil Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 8:46 am #

reviews sound interesting and you can never have too many cigars

  12. @czerbe Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 9:00 am #

LGC is a Cigar I always keep in my Humi it may not be one that I reach for all the time but its one I always keep stocked cause when you want a cigar that's a go to, and you know what you will get and always be happy with it that's the one I will reach for 9 times out of 10 no matter if its the R, or the Retro.. all of their sticks are top notch and really one of the reasons I started smoking Premium Cigars… I haven't tried these new sticks yet… but I hope to really soon!

I've never tried those so I unfortunately do not have a favorite experience

  15. Ira Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 9:12 am #

La Gloria Cubana was the cigar that sort of launched and was a prime beneficiary of the first cigar boom in 1992, I believe it was. The Wavell received a very high rating from CIgar Afficianado's first stand- alone issue. I was able to get some and was hooked. My favorite experience with LGC was on a trip to Key West. My wife and I landed in Miami, had lunch at a Cuban restaurant in Little Havana and then I bought a box of Wavells at the LGC place on Calle Ocho. I smoked them thoroughout the week in Key West. The cigars, the charm of Key West and the balmy weather all made that box of LGC Wavells extra special.

I remember the first time I smoked a La Gloria Cubana because 'you never forget your first.' I was in high school and it was that scantily clad cigar lady label that caught my eye. I came for the lady, but I stayed for the cigar.

How long does this contest last?

  18. Joel Scott Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 9:22 am #

Time for me to get back on the La Gloria bandwagon. Haven't had one since Ernesto left them to go off on his own.

  19. Carl Lingen Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 9:24 am #

Started a cigar club here in Iowa since it is getting almost impossible to smoke anywhere. Would love to win these and debut them and get others exposed to a new brand and learn a little more about the company and history.

One of my very favorite "wind down" parings is a La Gloria Cubana Serie R and a big pour of Pappy Van Winkle 15yo.

  21. Calvin Chou Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 9:43 am #

Unfortunately I have not tried La Gloria Cubana HOWEVER winning a box would be an fantastic start! Being in Canada and where I am Im really limited to the selection of cigars available.

  22. Jeff Burgess Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 9:51 am #

A buddy of mine has a client that gave him two La Gloria Cubana torpedoes about a month ago. Last Saturday my friend and I enjoyed them with a pour of Jameson while watching the Dodgers. Great cigar and great time!

  23. dave Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10:12 am #

    I haven't t tried them yet but I'd love to! !!

Ok so here's my story about my experience with La Gloria sticks…Well, it's actually more of a non-story. I received an LGC Serie R stick in a sampler that I ordered from a certain Pennsylvania-based online cigar retailer. It looked like a great smoke so I left it in my humidor for a while to acclimate it until I was ready to smoke it. After several weeks (6 or so) my brother came to visit me in Minnesota from Louisiana. We hadn't seen each other in over a year, so I was excited to see him, as well as introduce him to the wonderful world of cigars. After visiting our local B&M a few times, on a day we didn't feel like leaving the house, we decided to go outside to smoke. I broke out the humidor and offered him first choice. Wanna guess what he picked? Yep, the LGC Serie R I had been eyeing for several weeks! Of course I wasn't going to turn him down on it, but I was quite disappointed! I ended up smoking some other mediocre stick, just to stay in the same size range, while he went on and on about how good that cigar tasted! At any rate, we had a great time, and it was a worthy sacrifice to spend the time with him, especially since he's not going to be around for a few years now.

There's my only experience with LGC cigars. Perhaps it's time to have another one?

  25. @GarryCawthorn Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10:22 am #

Haven't had the chance to try one of these yet… But hoping I get lucky.. Good luck to all.. And Thank you for another sweet contest

  26. Eric Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10:23 am #

My BEST experience with a LGC?
Sitting on my back deck laughing with my friends,
holding a cold drink in my right hand
and a hot LGC Series R in my left hand,
    swapping jokes & lies.
How could it get any better?

  27. Mark Bresky Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10:44 am #

La Gloria Cubana Reserva Figurados Flechas Especiales Maduro was my favorite stick from the days that Ernesto was with the company. Everything about that stick was good. The look was awesome. From the dark wrapper to the shape and the special band. The taste was out of this world. The Nicaraguan tobacco gave it alot of flavor while the Dominican kept the harshness away.

  28. Steve A. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 12:23 pm #

Have always enjoyed LGC sticks and would love to try these new ones.

  29. matt hall Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 12:27 pm #

La Gloria R was actually one of my first "full bodied" cigars. My what a slippery slope it has been

  30. Gary Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 12:28 pm #

This is a very tasty cigar. I got one at Cigarnival 2013 recently, and would love to smoke some more.

My brother and I celebrated with a couple of these smokes, when we EAS'D out of the Corps. Great smoke!

LGC has long been one of my favorites. Years ago, I moved to a small college town in VA that had one little store with a small selection of basic premium cigars. During my first visit there, I convinced the owner to order some LGC wavells. The local serious cigar smokers, god bless ’em, showed their appreciation by buying them all up before I could get a one. The owner explained to me that he had never had such a response on a new box of cigars, and couldn’t help but let his regulars have them all…and he was happy to order more. It turned out well for everyone.

Smoking a La Gloria O'Belicoso at work last year. It was a fantastic smoke with excellent construction, and flavor, and plume showing its great age. Nothing better then getting paid to smoke a LGC

would like to try one to have a favourite experience.

Still waiting to have a favorite experince with la gloria cubana!
Wining this would probably put this experince on the top…

I smoked one with an old friend after our last deployment to Iraq.

When I started to get serious about cigars last summer, I bought a humidor with sampler from one of the big internet sites. One of the cigars was a La Gloria Cubana Serie R #5. I've smoked all of the original cigars except for that one and one other. I wanted to let the stronger cigars rest for a while and maybe mellow out some. But now I see it on the top row of my humidor each time I open the lid, and I think it's rested enough. Any day now…

nice contest, my first experience with la Gloria cubana was at my bachelor party and it paired well with jack and coke!!

La Gloria Cubanas and some good bourbon mixed with good friends makes for a good experience. Would be nice to win these, pass them around and maybe have a new addition to our top five!

I enjoyed one on my patio in the nice summer evening with a jose cuervo margarita, It was very tasty and made a sublime pair!!

Had one of these new Gilded Age Magnums. Quite the nice cigar and I would love a box!

  44. James Young Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 7:22 pm #

La Gloria is a daily cigar for me: a small moment of relaxation on a daily commute on I-95. My favorite experience? Chatting with Ernesto at a OVTC event and getting (and taking) his advice on the best way to cut one of his fine, large-ring-gauge cigars. I continue to follow it!

  45. Dan Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 8:08 pm #

Glad to see a cigar in this line with a Sumatran wrapper. They seem to becoming more in vogue. I know why: they are great tasting wrappers. I suspect that this cigar will only be improved with the addition of the Sumatran wrapper.

  46. Swede214 Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 9:15 pm #

This goes back four years, at least, first got back to cigars, got a La Gloria Cubana in a promotion from a online store, other cigars in this group. I think this was the fourth cigar, thought I was going to lose it, this was a strong cigar at the time for me. Now, it is a very good smoke. Thanks for the contest.

  47. Joe W. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10:02 pm #

One of the first cigars in my humidor was a Serie R. I picked up my cigar hobby last year in my second year of law school. We sat on the porch of my apartment with a bottle of Green Label before leaving for our 5 year high school reunion. Great times

  48. Jerry Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10:05 pm #

LGC is the brand that really grabbed me and got me into smoking on a regular basis. This was during the 90's and the vitola was the Wavell — both natural and maduro. Very fond memories of those times and I still like to keep a few on hand to bring me back in time.

  49. valor Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 10:15 pm #

Tried one about a year ago (I think a gilded age robusto) and really enjoyed it, would love to try these!
