1) In the continuing trend towards further consolidation of the cigar industry, Swedish Match – the parent company of General Cigar (owner of such brands as Macanudo, Partagas, and Cohiba) – has purchased retailer Cigars International, Inc. Cigar International is a wholesale cigar seller known for its two websites: CigarsInternational.com and CigarBid.com. The move hints that further acquisitions in the cigar industry may be vertical consolidations as companies seek to add shareholder value by controlling production, wholesale distribution, and retail sales.
2) Congratulations to the voters of Athens, Alabama, who this week rejected attempts to ban alcohol and time travel back to the forgettable days of prohibition. While we generally steer clear of politics not specifically tobacco-related, we think alcohol prohibition is a terrible policy for two reasons: (1) it sets a bad precedent for the prohibition of other substances that intolerant teetotalers don’t like, such as tobacco; and (2) it deprives cigar smokers of a fantastic accompaniment to their smoke.

I just wanted to point out that it was my wife that reviewed the Mojito Maddness. Ever since the RTDA she’s been just as passionate about cigars as I’ve am.
So you would say the cigar is mainly for broads, eh? I may have to get my wife hooked on them so she let’s me smoke inside…
It wasn’t too bad I triend a few puffs off it. They definitely do market these more towards women. Even now that my wife does smoke, I still can’t smoke inside. 🙁
Also there is a rumor that Padron is also going to be acquired.
Yes, the Padron rumor keeps circulating. Padron keeps refuting it.
While the deal of the week is quite attractive, I had a rather negative experience ordering it from the company that provides it. Ordering from them includes receiving a phone call to get you to buy more stuff and automatically getting signed up for a cigar club. It took quite a while to make them understand that automatically getting signed up for a club that includes getting $50 worth of cigars send to your place every month and having to either return them or having to pay for them might not be to a everybody’s liking.
