Olivas are highly regarded in the cigar community—and deservedly so—for their consistency, quality, and value. But something just wasn’t quite right about a five inch by 54 ring gauge Belicoso I recently bought and smoked at a Chicago B&M. The burn required constant touch-ups and, after the halfway mark, the full-bodied profile of leather and black coffee transitioned into a biting bitterness. Not nearly as pleasant as I had hoped.
Verdict = Sell.

Really, I've never had any issues with this. It's one of my favorite smokes.
Did you just have problems with this stick, or with all sizes and multiple sticks?
Wow, I had a different experience with this cigar. The Serie V burned perfectly and it never turned bitter. A must add to the humidor.

After smoking a few boxes of these cigars, this review does not reflect the Olivia V. Always a perfect burn and smoothness to them.
Editor, I realize this is a review based off a 1 cigar trial, and yes cheaper cigars are not as consistent, but I feel this is the first review I read where the 'quick smoke' was not justified. Maybe add a disclaimer? haha… On a good note, love your site visit it a few times a week.
I'm not surprised to see some readers disagree with my assessment, but what I've written is God's honest truth. Believe it or not, my colleague was equally unimpressed by the Lancero.
This post does contain a disclaimer of sorts, both in the italics and the actual text. If anything, maybe my verdict should serve as a simple reminder that it's possible to come across rare duds in most blends–even those produced by Oliva.
Interesting! Can't wait for a full review after you've smoked several more. I have had many Fuente duds in just about every line, but nary a bad Serie V (about a half-box so far). Had one today, and they are a great bang for the buck IMHO.
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with an Oliva V. I have to say that I've enjoyed pretty much every "V" I've smoked, with one notable exception. The "V" Lancero is one of my favorite smokes at this point in time and very dependable in my opinion. The exception I spoke of was with one of the Maduro "V"s. I bought a box; the first one was rich and powerful and excellent; the second one had a very tight draw to the point of being unsmokeable. It got bitter after a couple inches of huffing and puffing and I had to put it out.
I've probably bought about 8 boxes of Oliva Serie V since they came out. I've never had a bad one yet.
